Bubba Gump was fun and had great food.

Casual Dinners

Virgil%26#39;s Barbecue is on 44th street and it%26#39;s a very casual place. Your jeans and t shirt will be welcome. In fact, any restaurant in Times Square is jeans and t shirt friendly because it%26#39;s for tourists and regular people like you and me.

Anyway, Virgil%26#39;s Barbecue is a very good place that I recommend for casual dining or lunch. Here is their website: http://www.virgilsbbq.com.

There are several spots on West 44th along the way to Times Square; Cafe Un, Deux, Trois and Tratoria Dopa Teatro are two. There is also the Red Flame Coffee shop right next door which is great for breakfast

Also, probably 95 or maybe even 99 percent of the restaurants are jean and t shirt friendly. It%26#39;s the up scale restaurants in the fancy hotels and other areas in the city that may frown on jeans. That said, pretty much any restaurant is fine for jeans. Generally, the food in New York is pretty good. I%26#39;ve never really had a terrible meal in New York, even the hotdogs, burgers and pizzas are yummy pretty much anywhere un the city. So if you%26#39;re on a budget and see a tiny restaurant with low prices, you%26#39;ll most likely get a good meal.

My favorite cheap restaurant in NYC is Burritoville. You can sit down and eat cheap Mexican food that%26#39;s actually very good in quality with fresh ingredients. I love thier hot sauce! Yummy tortilla chips and awesome burritos too. Burritoville is a small NYC franchise and they a few locations spread out in the city. Their website is: www.burritoville.com

Of course, there are also a number of McDonalds spread out in NYC and they are jeans and t shirt friendly too.

I agree with Willie. Unless you want to eat at a 4 or 5 star restaurant, jeans are OK.

The restos. that have been mentioned are indeed casual as are many in that area. I%26#39;ll add John%26#39;s pizzeria also on west 44 st further west. What is not so casual are the very trendy bars in the hotels on your street. The bars at the Royalton, City Club etc. might not appreciate such casual attire. My very best advice is bring warm clothes for NYE. Jeans and a t shirt won%26#39;t do it. You may need long johns. :)

We just got back from NYC and we found a true gem! This restaurant is at 728 Eighth Ave. between 45th and 46th. It is called Trattoria Daniela and it was so reasonable and the food was incredible. 1/2 way through our trip we discovered this place and ate all of the rest of our meals there!! The Veal parmasean was to die for! Here is there website: www.danielarestaurant.com. If you try it let me know what you think!

Thanks for all your advice, i needed some reassurance.

nywiz: don%26#39;t worry, I%26#39;ll be bringing my long johns!

Daniela%26#39;s Trattoria @ 728 8th Ave. is reasonable, delicious and conveniently located to the theater district in NYC. The italian menu is varied, service very good, and portions were filling. The atmosphere inside is cozy, there is an upstairs and downstairs but both are small. We ate early and were seated immediately. A BONUS is they have a take out menu which is affordable and to my surprise offers a wide breakfast selection of eggs/omelets. View menu at www.menupages.com and search Daniela%26#39;s in the search box. You will find their regular menu and their take out menu. Eating inside is a lovely experience, don%26#39;t be fooled just because they offer take out also. I highly recommend this Trattoria over the typical chain restaurants that are smattered around Times Square like the Olive Garden....you can eat at the chains anywhere!
