Could Lord & Taylor become history?

According to The Times%26#39; web site, it%26#39;s probable:

What a shame.

Could Lord %26amp; Taylor become history?

Oh my. Just think, no more coupons :( And I did love their Christmas decorations, very classy.

Could Lord %26amp; Taylor become history?

Yeah it will. The rumours have been circulating for about a year. (My company does business with Federated, so I have heard all kinds of stuff.)

They are keeping it very quiet though. I was in there taking advantage of the sale on Monday, and was offered a credit card. When I asked...';aren%26#39;t you guys going out of business?';. The SA had no idea what I was talking about.

There is also a rumour that Target had it eyes on the space too. From what I have heard, the asking price is quite large. So much so that many retailers have shyed away, questioning the location%26#39;s profitability.

If I have to start going to Macy%26#39;s for Ralph Lauren bargains on my lunchbreak, I%26#39;m gonna be majorly ticked.

Sh*t.

Sort of figured this was coming for a long time, every time I went to the store departments were being cut, not a lot of merchandise, just a sad feeling.

It is too bad, I used to enjoy shopping there. That part of 5th Avenue is tricky, in the midst of change, so who knows.

Oh well, nothing stays the same, for better or worse.

Oh DARN, that%26#39;s one of the places that was high on my list for our late September visit. Been dreaming of this trip for the last 5-6years and as it is so many of the places and things I wanted to see are no longer there, gosh NYC hang on to what you%26#39;ve got until I get there!!!

NYCgirl, you%26#39;re being stoical. I wanna PROTEST! We%26#39;ve lost Altman%26#39;s, Bonwit Teller, Stern%26#39;s, Gimbel%26#39;s, Franklin Simon, Orbach%26#39;s, even May%26#39;s and Korvette%26#39;s. But this is personal. L%26amp;T is the only place I can handle. But I%26#39;ve always wondered how they stay in business because the place is never ever crowded. That%26#39;s part of what I love about shopping there.

%26lt;weeping%26gt;

Yeah, well I am stoical, what can I say.

But you are right, it is sad, and I am upset about it.

As a lot of you know, I%26#39;m not a huge shopper, but I have to admit that it was a pleasant store to be in due to the lack of crowds. Maybe the lack of crowds is the problem though. You just can%26#39;t win can you ?

Oh, no, say it ain%26#39;t so.

I still shed a small tear every time I walk by the Altman%26#39;s building -- I look at the business branch of the NYPL in that building and recall the days when it used to be the notions department at Altman%26#39;s. To make matters worse, the salesperson in the notions department who used to cut the ribbons I used to pull my hair back (and she did it as if it was the most important thing she would do that day) still lives in the neighborhood and I get a lump in my throat. every time I see her.

L%26amp;T has changed a lot the last couple of years and I haven%26#39;t always liked the changes (like moving hosiery off the main floor), but it has always been a calm, cool and welcoming retail oasis for me.

Bettina - You left out Hearn%26#39;s, Alexander%26#39;s and the best shopping experience ever -. S. Klein
