Columbus is more scenic, but Broadway is quite nice, too, lots of shops, pubs %26amp; restaurants, you won%26#39;t starve or go thirsty here, for sure. I was at the Hudson Bar recently, don%26#39;t worry about the ';cool'; factor, it was loud but fun, it was not pretentious at all. Go have a drink there, or better yet, go to the Mandarin Oriental ';Mobar'; , that is cool, too, but nice.
Day 2 sounds good, the walk from GC to UN is fine.
If you don%26#39;t already have plans to do so with your parents go to Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, it is great.
Have fun!!

Whym is a newish place near the Hudson that%26#39;s very good.

There%26#39;s a Whole Foods market in the basement of the Time Warner building if you want something more casual or take out. There%26#39;s also Bouchon Bakery in Time Warner (on the 3rd floor) for sandwiches, soup, pastries etc.
Angelo%26#39;s pizza on west 57th st very good brick oven pizza.
Kennedy%26#39;s is an Irish pub/restaurant very friendly also on west 57th st.
There%26#39;s are free tours of Grand Central on Wed. and Fri. at 12:30.
Here%26#39;s info about Grand Central including details of the tours at the bottom of the page.

If you don%26#39;t take the tour, here%26#39;s info on some of the ';secrets'; of Grand Central.

Across from Grand Central is the Chrysler building (42 st %26amp; Lexington). The walk from Grand Central to UN is fine. As you walk along 42 st, you%26#39;ll pass what%26#39;s known as the Daily News building at 220 East 42nd Street near Second Avenue. It has a giant globe and weather instruments in the lobby. (I think you%26#39;d be allowed in) and I think was used as the model for the Daily Planet building in the Superman Movies.
Tudor City is an unusual apartment complex that %26#39;s on the way. YOu might walk through to or from the UN. Here%26#39;s a map

Don%26#39;t miss the Katherine Hepburn gardens near the UN. Here%26#39;s more info on the area and some of the buildings.

These all sounds like great suggestions, but I would make just one more... the tourist places are great, but so is the eclectic beauty of the downtown scene. If you have a spare hour or so, hop on the subway (i would otherwise say walk, but seems you%26#39;re strapped for time) and take a walk through soho. Take any of the west side trains (red or blue lines) to Canal Street and walk North (if you cross Canal St., you%26#39;re going the wrong way). On Canal you%26#39;ll see the see lots of faux thigns for sale too.
Get a Bloody Mary at Felix or Cafe Noir and go for a stroll along West Broadway. When you get north enough, hop on the subway back to where you want to go.
I was actually thinking the same thing. The places you%26#39;re talking about visiting are all places your folks might be interested in. YOu might want to spend some alone time downtown where it%26#39;s a bit younger. How old are you?
Whiz, you%26#39;re right. The Daily News lobby was used as the set for the Daily Planet.
Grew up on 71st and B%26#39;way. Still have family there. Great / wonderul area! May want to go to Grant%26#39;s tomb. Easy bus or subway ride from 72nd street. Columbus ave? No big deal. Resturants and shops. Gray%26#39;s Papaya? The best dogs in NY. If you have time: Little Italy, Chinatown (one block from each other) and of course the village. East or West side. Great pubs and live Jazz. Try McSorley%26#39;s. The oldest tavern in NYC. It%26#39;s one block from Copper Union. Tavern on the Green? No big deal. Nice resturant on the outside. Food not so good. Tourist trap. While at Sheep Meadow may want to see the Zoo, walk through the park toward the east side along the way to 5th Ave.
