Hotel recommendations please

My husband and I will be in New York for our first visit in November. We are looking for a hotel well located for museums, theatre, lots of walking etc. We want to spend about $US350 per night. I would appreaciate any recommendations as the range is fairly overwhelming.

Hotel recommendations please

We just spent a week at the Affinia Dumont and we absolutely loved the hotel and the area it%26#39;s located in. I believe someone posted on here that they were a family of six and got a one bedroom and couldnt believe how big it was. Each room also has a small kitchen which we found convenient for snacks and breakfast.

As far as location goes, most places are pretty convenient because the mass transit is so good and it is a walking city. I would avoid the Time Square area however. It%26#39;s just too crazy and congested.

Hotel recommendations please

I am going for the first time in Sept. You are right, there are alot of hotels.

There are a few very popular hotels near Times Square that seem to be popular.

My friend is from NYC and he said the Paramount is nice.very trendy great location. 305.00/night. The rooms are small so we booked Best Western Hospitality House.

The Marriott Marquis is also extremely popular, that was out of my price range so I did not book it. My friend recommended that.

Doubletree Guest Suites gets great reviews, along with the Hilton Garden Inn.

www.expedia.com has alot of great reviews, along with this website.

The Iroquois and the Sofitel would be my recommendations in that price range if you wish to stay in the theatre district; both are equidistant from Times Square %26amp; Grand Central Station so it%26#39;s an easy walk to subway lines which serve both the east and the west sides of Manhattan. Yet you%26#39;re out of the congestion and visual/aural ';din'; of Times Square itself which is a plus imo because I think it%26#39;s nice to return to more of an ';oasis'; after a full day of sightseeing -- which is why I myself never recommend, e.g., the Marriott Marquis [plus, I%26#39;m not a fan of huge convention-type hotels, but others here would disagree with me]. The Iroquois %26amp; Sofitel are different kinds of hotels, so read the reviews here to help you decide which might appeal to you the most.

We stayed at the recently renovated San Carlos in midtown east for our most recent mini-getaway and I liked it muchly (even a 1-bedroom suite with kitchenette there should be within your price range).

I counsel you to stay away from the Paramount: very small rooms with decor/design more trendy than functional (or terribly pleasing to my eye but granted that%26#39;s a matter of personal taste). Plus it has been sold for converstion into a Hard Rock hotel -- it may be temporaraily out of business come November -- so it seems to currently be the victim of indifferent management.

I kind of like to stay up a bit away from it all but within good walking/public transport access to Central Park and all parts of the city. Have stayed at The Lucerne on the Upper West Side and The Mark on the Upper East Side. Another option, which I plan to use next year is The Surrey on the Upper East Side.

Lots of ideas. I can see I will be busy looking at all of these options. Thank you all so much.

I recommend the Lucerne or the Doubletree Guest Suites. Both are well located, good service and clean. You might want to check www.travelzoo.com,they often have good specials.
