I had already booked the BW but I changed my mind and booked Salisbury for my trip in August. For a rate of $255 a night, I got a One Bedroom Suite w/2 Double Beds %26amp; Sofabed. This should be adequate for our family of five. The rates are similar to the BW.
Also, the Salisbury offer earlier check n time of 2 pm and later check out time of 12 pm as opposed to the BW. The BW does ovide free breakfast but the $3 deal at Salisbury also sounded good. Also, its proximity to Central Park would be great for the kids. One thing I am concerned about is that in the Salisbury, not all rooms offer microwave/refridgerator.
Any recommendations of one over the other .? .regarding location, etc. Thanks.
Salisbury versus Best Western Hospitality HouseSonia, my experience of The Salisbury was that they were very accommodating. I%26#39;m sure that if you ask in advance, they%26#39;ll make sure that your room comes with fridge and microwave.
They will also store your luggage at no charge well after check-out time so that you can enjoy your last day to the full.
The location is great imho as there is a subway station at each end of the block, the park is 5 minutes walk North and Times Square is 10 minutes to the South - far enough to be quiet but close enough to walk.
Salisbury versus Best Western Hospitality HouseSonia, I have also booked at the Salisbury for my family of five, on a recommendation from my sister who arranged a stay for her inlaws from Sweden. It seems to be liked by Europeans, and might have an old-world feel, in part due to it%26#39;s age. My only concern is what I have heard about the showers being inconsistant, hot and cold while you are in the shower.. the location is great, and the size of the suites is bigger than Embassy Suites. We have three boys so a little more room is essential.
I think when you say not all rooms offer fridge/microwave at the Salisbury, that%26#39;s in regular rooms. I think all SUITES have a proper kitchen. I think the 2 hotels have lots of similarities. The Salisbury is closer to the park and on the west side (better subway options) but I think you could have a 2 bedroom suite at the BW Hosp. for around the same price as a 1 bedroom at the Salisbury. Then it%26#39;s really an issue of privacy. UP to you. What was the price at the BW Hosp and for what size suite?
I think check in / out times should not be part of the decision equation. They%26#39;re not reliable. If your room is ready early they%26#39;ll give it to you. It%26#39;s also possible it won%26#39;t be ready in time.
Thank you all for the replies. You are so kind to take off your busy schedules and answer our questions.
Nywhiz, I was getting a one bedrom suite at the BW as well. Right now I am leaning towards Salisbury because of its location
I just booked our flight tickets from LAX to JFK on Delta - non stop for $ 318 plus taxes and at times which were perfect for us. I am so excited that my New York trip is becoming a reality. I am more excited than the kids!
Hi Sonia - We stayed in a suite at the Salisbury. The hotel is old but our suite was huge and spotlessly clean. We had no problems with the shower. The sofa bed was not very comfortable (iron bar across the middle) but we solved the situation by putting the bedspreads on the sofa and then putting the sheets over the bedspreads. That solved the problem. The suites all have a kitchenette - microwave, fridge, sink and coffee maker (hotel provides the coffee daily). However there is no silverware, dishes, tea towels, those kinds of things. If you have room, it might be an idea to bring some disposable plastic ware, that way if you bring back something to eat in the hotel or the kids want a drink, you%26#39;ll be prepared. Having said that, you can of course buy all that stuff once you are there :%26#39;) A word of caution - do not leave anything on the bed if you know the cleaning staff might be coming in. I lost a new dressing gown and my husband lost his socks because we had left them on the bed and our housekeeper (who was very very apologetic) just scooped up all the bed linens and threw them in the laundry. We checked all week with the laundry service because I hadn%26#39;t even paid for my dressing gown yet (Visa bill waiting for me upon return home) but to no avail. Over all, we had absolutely no complaints. The $3.00 breakfast is a great deal and the location is ideal. Subway at the doorstep and Central Park a stone%26#39;s throw away. You will love it. Have a great time, wish I was going again. Renish.
