Yankee Stadium and Cell Phones

Just a quick and probably silly question. We attended a Yankees game last week and when we went through the gates they ask to see my husband%26#39;s cell phone and had him flip it open. We were and still are mystified over the reason for that. By the way, they did not check my bag or phone. Any ideas?

They always check my cell phone, camera, etc., at Yankee Stadium.

I presume they%26#39;re just ensuring that it%26#39;s really a cell phone/camera, and that you%26#39;re not trying to sneak in a weapon disguised as a cell phone/camera.

They do similar checks at airports - I%26#39;m occasionally asked to turn on my laptop, (I presume to prove that it is, in fact, a computer and not something more sinister) although this has happened less frequently lately.

As for you not being checked at all...probably just inconsistent application of security measures.

I%26#39;m sure GWB can add some insight here.

Thanks so much for your reply , NYCSoxFan! We thought it was maybe to make sure that it was not a remote control device to set off a bomb or something. We just thought at the moment that it was really strange especially since they just waved me through and didn%26#39;t check my bag.
