Hiya,
We are arriving at JFK around 1pm, and are wondering what is the best way to get to Times Square (where our hotel is). We have previously only flown to Newark, so need some advice on the best way to get to the city from JFK. There will be two of us plus two suitcases.
Thanking everyone in advance!
Gemma
Best way to get from JFK to NYC
Hi Gemma, we flew into JFK in March 2004 and just got a yellow taxi into Times Square (stayed at the Hilton Times Sq - around West 42nd st?) Anyway, there was a fixed fare, think it was around $35 at the time (plus tip). I was getting a bit annoyed with myself for not remembering just then so I%26#39;ve just looked for a website - check out www.panynj.gov/aviation - it%26#39;ll tell you your options for getting to/from JFK (flat fare is now $45 - inflation, eh?!) There is a way to do it by airtrain/subway - v cheap but also time consuming and a bit of a bother with 2 cases (plus more on the way back with all the shopping!) In the end we just did it by taxi both ways and I don%26#39;t think it cost us any more than about $100-ish total. Journey time into the city was about 1 hour (but it was around 5/6pm so I guess would have been rush hour). Think it was a little less on the way back.
Have a great trip!
Best way to get from JFK to NYC
The fixed taxi fare from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan is $45. There will also be a toll ($4) and you should tip $7-9. There%26#39;s also a bus that goes to Port Authority bus terminal (nearish Times Square) for $15/person. Then there%26#39;s train service. So it depends on how much luggage you have (train not so good with lots of luggage) how many of you there are and how convenient you want it to be.
All the details (including car service that%26#39;s about the same price as a taxi but perhaps a bit nicer car) here

What you should NOT do is accept a ride/taxi from ANYONE who walks up to you. Get a yellow cab by standing in the official line with a dispatcher.
You should also (imo) avoid Super Shuttle shared mini bus unless you want to waste a lot of time.
