New York Midtown, East Side

Will be using a friend%26#39;s condo in the 50s near 1st Ave. We need suggestions for reasonable places to eat. We know of Jubilee on 54th. Any other suggestions appreciated. Will be going to theatre on Friday evening and Sat. matinee. Anyone really familiar with this area? Good takeout nearby? Going this weekend until July 4. Thank you

La Mangeoire and La Mediterranee for French. Great prix fixe dinners. Angelo%26#39;s pizza on 2nd ave for eat in or delivery. Rosa Mexicano for Mexican (or Pampano more upscale). Amma for Indian. L%26#39;Impero near the UN is fab. Italian. Metropolitan Cafe on 1st %26amp; 53 st. for local brunch.

Shun Lee, Our Place for Chinese. Both deliver.

menupages.com has takeout places listed now.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have noted all locations and I know we will not be wandering around wondering where to eat. We are thinking of viewing 4th of July fireworks from Roosevelt Island. Any suggestions?

Cafe Joul on 1st Ave between 58th and 59th is very good. It%26#39;s probably the best kept secret in that area. The food is somewhat simlar to Jubilee so maybe you want to try that since you%26#39;ve been to Jubilee already?

Other suggestions that would fit the budget would be Luna Piena on 53rd between 2nd and 3rd Ave. Angelo%26#39;s on 54th and 2nd, Cafe Bono Gusto on 2nd Ave between 53rd and 54th St. If you want Indian food, Baluchi%26#39;s is also on 53rd between 2nd and 3rd.

Bottom line is that you%26#39;re in a fabulous area for dining with many places that are mostly frequented by locals so therefore it doesn%26#39;t get that much exposure.

We stayed at Trump Tower at the UN in April. We liked SIP SAK a turkish restaurant on 2nd at 49/50, loved L%26#39;Impero at Tudor City, and a really good greek restaurant ( cant remember the name !!) on 1st two blocks up from Trump Tower ( around 50 )

If you are there on a Wednesday there is a farmers market in the Dag Hammersold Plaza.

The Greek restaurant is called Meltemi on 1st Ave and 51st St.
