Il Cantinori and Da Silvano are excellent. I like Palma across the street from Po. Gorgeous outdoor garden.

For a real neighborhood, casual restaurant - Le Zie in Chelsea on 7th just north of 20th.

I love Le Zie! I highly recommend it. Fits your need for good food and good prices, with a little sophitication but without the attitude.
