Cosmopolitan, Herald Square or Anco Studios

My husband and I are coming to NY in October for the first time. I have been reading the forum every day for the last two weeks and have learned so much already. I have a dilemma though, trying to decide between these three properties. All three sound wonderful and in our price range. Does anyone have any ideas or comments about these places? It looks as if there are a lot more options on where to eat if we stay at the Cosmopolitan or Herald Square. Anco Studios looks on the map to be further away, and perhaps quieter.

I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Cosmopolitan, Herald Square or Anco Studios

I stayed at the Cosmopolitan last year (March) It is budget accomodation but I found it very clean and the room we had was a good size. The subway was right outside which was handy. Walking distance to soho, tribeca, chinatown and financial district. I liked the location and I would stay here again.

Cosmopolitan, Herald Square or Anco Studios

I have a friend who stays at Anco all of the time, and she loves it. Here last visit for her 3rd time there. I asked her to write a few paragraphs and when she does I will post it. She says it is on the older side so a little bit worse for the wear, but clean %26amp; convenient. It is on a beautiful Upper East Side Street.

I hope to post her review within the next couple of days.

I think it depends on your ages and interests. Anco studios would be ideal if you plan to spend a lot of time at museums and prefer a quiet location. It%26#39;s not a typical tourist area apart from being near a lot of museums.

Cosmopolitan I think is good for a younger couple to be downtown near more interesting areas.

The Herald Square is better for typical tourist locale, especially good for shopping. But I think there are also plenty of other hotel/apartment options depending on your budget and interests.

Thank you everyone. We are in our late 40%26#39;s and prefer the quiet, so I think I will choose Anco Studios. It seems as if you get much more space and character than a hotel room. I know it is a short walk to museums, which interest us. We are not into the night life, but need to be close enough to the action that we can get a bus or subway to other parts of town. Are there stops close by? Are there any restaurants close by, or would we need to catch a bus to find food? Thanks again for your ideas.

Buses %26amp; subways are nearby, so are places to eat, it is fine!

Thank you, NYCgirl. I%26#39;ll look forward to reading the review. Would there be any pictures available, other than what is on their website?

This is the photo that always worries me

That would be pretty claustrophic. Did you notice they also say double beds? Just a heads up. There are plenty of dining options in the area. There%26#39;s a decent coffee shop a block or 2 away on Madison Ave. and there%26#39;s also Le Pain Quotidien on 84th %26amp; Madison.

They offered me a small double for 165 or a larger queen size overlooking courtyard with lots of windows for 215. We took the larger room, since this photo worried me too. There is another room on their website that looks a lot bigger, so I%26#39;m hoping that%26#39;s the one it is. Maybe NYCgirl%26#39;s friend can clarify that for me??

At $215 (plus tax?) I hope you realize you have lots of other options. Closer to the date, travelzoo often has specials for around $200.

Many of the apts. in b %26amp; bs like a Greenwich Village Home, West 11th st. Townhouse, Abingdon Guest House and even Wymanhouse.com on the upper westside can be had in what appear to be nicer accomodations. The location of Anco is great, but I have been in the building and the rooms are very basic.

It looks as if it has a lot of character, which is a huge plus. The $215 is after taxes, so it really has been the best for the price. Thank you for the advise. I will look again when time is closer.
