Greetings All!
Heading into the City next Thursday, my husband%26#39;s birthday. We%26#39;re auditioning for Millionaire at 6:30PM, but we plan to drive in early and spend the afternoon in the park if the weather is good.
But if it%26#39;s not... what would you do? We plan on having a light lunch and then a good meal after the auditions.
Am I right in thinking the ABC Studios are close to the Dakota and Strawberry Fields?
Anyone know anything about Nick and Toni%26#39;s Cafe? It looks close to the studios ... is this a better place for lunch or dinner?
Any ideas on how to best spend our time are greatly appreciated! Of course, we%26#39;ll have our car, but we plan on just parking and walking once in the city.
Thanks for the help!
Tina
One Day in the Upper West Side - What would YOU do?
1) Break a leg at your audition.
2) just park the car and forget it. Lots will cost $30 or so. And NO TURN ON RED in the city (no signs, just one big one as you enter the city)
3) If the weather is bad you could spend some time in the American Museum of Natural History
One Day in the Upper West Side - What would YOU do?
I%26#39;m excited for your audition! You must let us know how it goes (hopefully better than mine did).
The ABC Studios are at 67th (or is it 66th?) and Columbus, just a short walk to the Dakota, at 72nd and Central Park West. Strawberry Fields is just across the street.
If the weather isn%26#39;t great, I%26#39;d still go to the park and have lunch at the Boathouse. It%26#39;d be less crowded and the scenery is lovely. I%26#39;ve never been to Nick and Toni%26#39;s.
The Dakota is on 72 st. and Central Park West. The ABC studios are in the 60s but some are much further west. What address are you going to? I know Regis%26#39; studio for Live with R %26amp; K is off Columbus Ave. (which wouldn%26#39;t be far) but there are ABC studios off West End Ave (300 west) that are more of a trek. It looks like Millionaire is on 67 st b/w Columbus %26amp; CPW so yes, close.
I don%26#39;t know how long the auditions last, but you could be eating dinner late. I%26#39;d have more than a light lunch.
I%26#39;ve not been to the Nick %26amp; Toni%26#39;s in Manhattan. It%26#39;s an outpost of their original place in the Hamptons which is good (and is a celebrity magnet). It would be near Regis%26#39; studio but not as near to the studios further west. I think it would be fine for either lunch or dinner. There are dozens of other places nearby too including O%26#39;Neals, Shun Lee West (chinese). Cafe des Artistes is on the west 67 st block off CPW. It%26#39;s beautiful, famous and romantic.

If I were spending the day in the area though, I%26#39;d have lunch at either Jean Georges (in the Trump International hotel) on Columbus Circle (they have a great prix fixe and you can eat outside) or I%26#39;d go to the Boat House in Central Park. Both would work for indoors or out, light meal or something heavier.
If it%26#39;s bad weather and you can%26#39;t walk around the park, the NY Historical Society is on CPW and 77 st. The Time Warner building at Columbus Circle is terrific (lots of dining options in there too including a Whole Foods in the basement). Go up to the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental and have a coffee or a drink. Great views. And ofcourse the Mus. of Natural History and the Rose Center.
Check iconparking.com for lots and prices in the area.
THIS is why I LOVE NY and this board!
Many Thanks! This is being printed and put in my pocket!

Bettina i am interested on the story about your audition for ';Millionaire';?
Tina good luck to you %26amp; hubby
I didn%26#39;t pass!
Thanks for the words of encouragement... He passed the test once before but never got a call (though we did leave for Vegas the next day for a week). I think he%26#39;ll do better than me, but you never know!
I%26#39;ll let you know how it goes.
One more question though...
Anyplace local in that area to hear some Live Music at night? We%26#39;ll be hoofin%26#39; it from the auditions but we can walk if the music and drinks are good.
脜 good blues club would be amazing!
Any ideas??
Thanks!
Tina
If the Museum of Natural History is too crowded on a rainy day, check out the New York Historical Society. A hidden gem a block from the AMNH. Lost of fascinating NYC history stuff.

Thanks Queens!
Wonderful tidbit, I hope it doesn%26#39;t rain... but if it does, I%26#39;ll be sure to take advantage of your advice.

In the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle is Jazz at Lincoln Center including Dizzy%26#39;s Coca Cola with great views. Several other venues inside.

Makor is a place that could be right on the same block as the studio if you%26#39;re going to the one on 67th st. I haven%26#39;t tried it but it gets a very good write up on bigapplejazz.com which is a great website. Here%26#39;s the page for Makor.

The Sugar Bar on west 72 st might be good. Thurs. is open mike night (anyone can get up and sing. If not Millionaire, maybe a different sort of tryout ;)?
