Apartment Rental.

I am coming to New York in October (2nd trip) and I was considering renting a studio apartment through nyhabitat.com. I know it gets good reviews on here and I know to avoid woogoo.

For the same money as a 2 star hotel you could have a nice apartment (I know you don%26#39;t have the room service and reception staff) however, are there any cons to staying in an apartment like this? What would happen if the apartment wasn%26#39;t like the one in the pictures, have you got any comeback?

Has anyone got any real experience of this?

Apartment Rental.

I have done an apartment rental in Puerto Rico through craigslist and I had the same worries. I kept good contact and communication with the rental person and ended up having a perfect stay. -I think that if you can pay for the rental through paypal.com, you can be assured some security through the website but I%26#39;d say to check it out. I hope I was of some help. -Good luck!

One of the cons of an apartment through nyhabitat is living with someone else%26#39;s stuff around. These apartments are not necessarily designed specifically for vacation rental. Often you%26#39;re staying in someone%26#39;s home while they%26#39;re away or something. Some people found this weird. Another downside is many of the apartments are in walk up buildings with no lifts (elevators here). But that%26#39;s usually spelled out clearly.

Another issue is not having anyone (concierge/front desk) to ask for directions, information etc.

The major benefit is more space for same or less money.

Thanks for your advice on this subject.

I booked an apartment through NYHabitat today and it was quite easy. I took your advice on board and I was able to pay the deposit through my visa, so there is built in protection there.

I looked at the apartments and made a shortlist of the apartments that where available throughout the year so I knew they where geared towards vacation rentals rather than someone else鈥檚 apartment. Most are walk up but usually only a few floors.

We then contacted NYHabitat with a list of our apartments and they responded very quickly. We were assigned an agent to deal with us and he was very helpful. Once we narrowed down the apartment it was only available for one week in November, but thanks to tripadvisor I realised it was thanksgiving weekend, which turned out to be an added bonus. Once we faxed back our confirmation documents we were emailed the owners details, then the owner emailed me a few hours later.

I don%26#39;t think I would do this for my first trip, but I will be staying 2 blocks from where I stayed in June so I know the area well.

I just hope my stay is as good as the booking process!!!

Many thanks again.
