Coming to NY 14th July and as it will be hot would like to go out of the city for about half a day to somewhere scenic or beachy! Any recommendations of somewhere not too far and details of how to get there?

Another option is Long Beach, Long Island. It%26#39;s the easiest and closest of the Long Island Railroad ';beach packages';.

It takes about 1 hour from Penn Station, Manhattan. Then walk about 2 blocks from the Long Beach railroad station to the beach. Presto!
Long Beach is not a public beach. You must pay a fee to use it, but it is worth it. If you buy the ';beach package'; at Penn Station, it includes the beach entry fee. Show your train ticket to the teenagers working the kiosks on the boardwalks, and they%26#39;ll give you a little plastic entrance card for the day.
Thanks for those suggestions. Any others that maybe don%26#39;t involve a beach? Not sure what we want to do!!! Anywhere romantic or scenic or anything involving animals (but not a zoo!!)
How many days will you be here for? You may not want to squander any time leaving the city!
