Check-in at Airports/ Heathrow Express

Hi. We are flying from Heathrow to JFK with Virgin in September. It is ages since we have done a longhaul flight so am intrigued to read that we can check-in online and also at Paddington Station where we are getting the Heathrow Express train to the airport. Has anyone checked in in this way ? Is it any more convenient or a better option to do it this way? We always thought that check-in was where you deposit your luggage and get your boarding pass. I assume if you do it online you get a pass to print off? And that you still have to queue at the airport to give in your luggage?? Please help!! Thanks.

Check-in at Airports/ Heathrow Express

My daughter just checked in online with BA earlier this week, and it was a doodle. A boarding pass is printed off and then at the airport all they had to do was take their bags to a dedicated desk(no queues at all!) to have them tagged. There was a huge queue for people checking in the ';normal'; way. I assume Virgin will work the same way. It%26#39;s definitely a time saver.

Thanks for that! You%26#39;ve just convinced me to try it!!

We use online check-in whenever possible. As has been said, it almost eliminates queueing at the airport; you just go the Fast Bag Drop desk to drop off your bags. Depending on the flight, you%26#39;ll either be able to print off your boarding pass at home, or you%26#39;ll be instructed to collect it at the Fast Bag Drop desk.

We used the check-in at Paddington Station once, and it was fantastic - you dropped your bags off there, then wandered down to the Heathrow Express with only your carry-on bags. Unfortunately, I don%26#39;t think Virgin have a check-in desk at Paddington any more.

Virgin online-check in is not as good as BA. You CANNOT print off your boarding pass and so you have to queue up and collect it at the airport when you drop of your luggage, so it doesn%26#39;t save much time. You can, however select your seats.

Paddington check-in closed a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the tips... Have got a few weeks to go yet so will have a think about it. The idea of leaving your bags at a london station and then expecting them to be at JFK airport fills me with ideas of lost luggage! if virgin dont use it anymore then that solves that problem!! thanks again!!

Check on the London Forum for Heathrow Express discounts. You can purchase round trip tickets for Heathrow Express and get about 6 GBP off the price ... if you enter the code.

In my experience of online check-in with various airlines, it%26#39;s irrelevant whether or not you can print out your boarding pass at home. You still have to show your passport and have your bags weighed and tagged and answer the usual questions about them; waiting for the check-in clerk to print out your boarding passes adds about five seconds to the process.

Whether or not you can print out your boarding pass at home, online check-in is still *way* faster than queueing up for normal check-in.

Thanks for the tip about the heathrow express discount!! I%26#39;m checking it out as I speak!! Thanks again.

The Heathrow discount is really a great deal, saves some cash and time - really easy to use. Hope you have a great trip. Ta. MMM!
