Short term apartment rental

Hi - I was thinking it would be fun to rent an apartment on the Upper East Side in October or November for 2 to 3 weeks. There are so many agencies on the internet ...and I am clueless as to reputations etc. Does anyone know of a reliable agency that I can contact? I have always stayed in NY hotels and would like to able to really get the feel of living in a great city neighborhood. Thanks!

Why upper eastside and what sort of budget?

The Surrey Hotel is UES and has rooms that are apts.

nyhabitat.com is a co. that%26#39;s been used a lot. I have a friend who got an UES apt. through them last summer. Once they find you the apt., you deal with the owner. Only downside is you really feel as though you%26#39;re staying in someone else%26#39;s space (b/c you are!).

Ancostudios.com is a townhouse that rents out apts. that some people have used. (some are pretty small).

vrbo.com and cyberrentals.com are sites where you deal directly with owners so pros and cons.

I just like the area around Madison Ave...60%26#39;s to 70%26#39;s...I am willing to pay around 4,000 for the month....but do not know how far that goes in that neighborhood...thought I might share it with friends..and take turns using it. I want to walk to museums, 5th avenue, Central Park...

I checked out the Surrey Hotel and maybe that is the type of thing I am looking for....when I think about it the only thing I need beyond a hotel type room is a kitchen...and they have them...has anyone stayed at this hotel before and what was your experience??? Thanks again for your help!

For a month you would have more/different options but I don%26#39;t think too many people with a good apartment would want different people coming and going throughout the month.

The Surrey is a great hotel in a great location, esp. if you want to spend times in the museums.

Thanks - no I was not thinking of renting someones existing apt...what I was thinking was an executive type that is always rented out on a shorterm basis...something owned by a rental agency..no ones personal possessions in the apt or condo...I guess like a vacation rental. I will check further into the Surrey because the location is as you say very good.

My point was, whether a corporate rental or private rental, if you sign a lease for a month, the renters would not take kindly to your allowing various and sundry people to use (you mentioned sharing with various friends) it during that period of time.

Good point.....I should stay there the entire time myself and just invite different friends to come visit...and make sure I say 2 persons will be staying there...do you think that will work??? I have never done anything like this before as you can tell.

Will it just be a one bedroom, and are you paying for the entire month? If you were planning on having your friends pay you for their week, what if they back out at the last minute? You%26#39;re stuck. And wouldn%26#39;t you want to be in New York with all your friends at the same time? I agree there will always be someone you have to get past to check in or out, so I don%26#39;t know how you%26#39;d ';sneak'; people in anyway.

But if you want to do it, check out Oakwood, they have lots of nice ';corporate'; type apartments.
