Shopping in Lake George

Ok we have some changes in town this year that I thought I should mention. I wrote a big overview/inside page under that tab but it was brought to my attention alot of people don%26#39;t read those, so here%26#39;s the quick run through.

We had a fire a couple months ago, what a loss, 5 stores were burned and another damaged. Among them were : Kites, Tails%26amp;Toys (colorful, loud music, lots of toys) Wizards Den, Bear Trading Company, Bob%26#39;s Icecream, and the Fish Fry at the end that used to be Kaitlyn%26#39;s. I%26#39;m sorry to report there is still cleanup going on, so you will be stuck with an eyesore there. They are planning to try to rebuild in the fall. On the bright side, we still have alot in town. Lake George Mall is a building that has been there as long as I can remember but not mentioned alot. You can walk inside, see many stores on each side. There are 3 floors, lots of steps, so parents with strollers or people with wheel chairs, asthma, or just hate stairs, go to the side of the building and you%26#39;ll see an alleyway heading to Christie%26#39;s. Walk on down and on your right you%26#39;ll see an entrance (Cuckoo%26#39;s Nest is a bar, but that enters you onto the 2nd floor) or you can also enter the mall from the bottom at the Boardwalk. On the 2nd floor is my new fav must mention, Don%26#39;s Gift%26amp;Variety. They have the best prices in town, I already started my Christmas shopping when they opened! Gifts for all, sunglasses for $1.99(all of them!) nascar stuff, alot of toys for the kids, candy, collectibles.. Toys start at $1.00 and up, alot of flashing toys $1.99, some toilet humor, putty/slime, cars, baseball bat w/ ball for $3.99, flashing frisbee, etched Crystals with things like Nascar and New York inside, including base for under $10.00! Down the street they want $15.00 just for the crystal, so watch where you shop, pay attention to prices. Across the way is a cute Cowboy shop with everything country, plenty of clothes, hats, belts. Downstairs at boardwalk level is a great cafe with Angus burgers, fried dough, sandwiches, melts, nice owner good food. Upstairs is Jade Gifts, my daughter%26#39;s name if you have seen me post before but no relation, alot of gifts of all diff kinds, prices go from great to wow are u kidding, beware of the incense smell if you are sensitive. Also they is a great candy store up top u can see from the rd, (hello Willy Wonka!) and a bunch of other gift shops that are too numerous to mention, and honestly I spent everything at Don%26#39;s Gift then I was too tired and content to go on, but I%26#39;ll go back in a couple days lol. Back on Canada Street (route 9) some other must mentions are Psychadellic Soul, you%26#39;ll hear the music and see the neon colors before you get there, Lake George Trading Company. Honestly those are my favs and the best deals you%26#39;ll find without it breaking before you get home. Beware of some of these cheap-o gift shops that just want to rip you off, Im a local and it still happens to me. Don%26#39;t forget too further down on Route 9 south before you hit GREAT ESCAPE is a mile of shopping, mainly clothes and kitchen stuff there though. Have fun!!

Shopping in Lake George

Hi Princess,

I was telling my sons about Kites, Tails and Toys. They were so sad about it. We always stopped by those places when we came up. Do you know if they will be rebuilding/reopening?

We decided to go up next summer. We usually go during Adirondack Nationals but I would like to check out L.G. during the summer. Saving up now for Lodges at Cresthaven. I know they are re-doing their pool so I figure it would take a season to have everything done and any ';kinks'; taken cared of. Besides, at $3,500 a week it better be worth it! LOL!

Thanks for all of your advise. I%26#39;ve really enjoyed reading your input.

Sue

Choking at what you pay a week at Cresthaven, but I know it%26#39;s really fabulous there, I really hope it is worth it! Breaks my heart too about Kites, I used to be a manager there 3 years ago I loved shopping there after I left to go back to nursing. They still have a great website though, and the owner still has his 2 other stores in Lake George, Lake George Trading and Psychadellic Soul. He out some of the toys in Psychadellic soul so all isn%26#39;t lost. They are looking at starting to rebuild in the fall after most tourists have gone home so traffic wont be worse than it already is. Anyway the site is www.kitestailstoys.com so you can shop from home :) maybe that will perk your kids up a bit. Take care!

Yeah, can you believe that%26#39;s the going rate according to their website! Thanks for the kite website, I%26#39;ve sent it to my son. Looking forward to %26#39;07.
