Where to buy Broadway tickets

Can anyone tell me the best place to buy tickets to see a show? We will be in NY October 19th, so I%26#39;m hoping that is enough time in advance to get fairly good seats?? How often do the shows change? I%26#39;m afraid of trying to buy tickets online, but I wouldn%26#39;t get tickets if I waited. Is that correct? Do all of the shows sell out? Is there a website that lists what shows are available in the future? How much do tickets cost and is there a website that shows seating charts? Not knowing what the tickets should go for I can%26#39;t tell if I%26#39;m dealing with a scalper or not. Are there off Broadway shows available? How do I find out about that?

I have never been to NY before and my husband was there once and only for a day. We have never been to a play anywhere, but would love to see and do as much as possible in the three days that we will be there.

I read about the Greeters on this forum, so I have signed up to have a Greeter. What are the chances with four months lead time that we will get one? We would really enjoy that a lot.

I%26#39;m sure I will drive everyone nuts with all of my questions between now and then . Thanks for any info!

Where to buy Broadway tickets

An easy way to start is to go to www.playbill.com, over on the left will be choices of ';Broadway'; and ';Off Broadway';. You can read about each play and decide what sounds good to you. They also provide links to buy tickets, usually either Telecharge or Ticketmaster, you just work your way through their instructions. They also have links to all the seating charts in every theatre - it%26#39;s a good idea to print out that seating chart so when you start the Telecharge rigamarole you%26#39;ll know what seats they are offering you. People have also recommended Broadwaybox.com to get codes for discounts to many plays (not the most popular ones).

I%26#39;m also coming in the Fall and a lot of plays are closing between now and then (this information will also be on Playbill), and there will be new ones taking their place (most of the really popular ones will still be around, just depends on what you want to see).

Some people take a chance and have good luck getting half price tickets on the same day at the TKTS booth. I would rather have my tickets all set, to see what I want, in the seats I want, when I want but that%26#39;s up to you.

Actually, lots of popular shows are offered at discount, like Hairspray, Phantom, and others.

Thank you all for the great websites. From what I saw, most of the discounts are on shows in the near future. Maybe I%26#39;m looking too soon. Would it be better to shop for discounts closer to travel date? Hairspray and Wicked are both playing here in Portland right now and the reviews look good. I%26#39;m hoping they are still playing there in October.

I don%26#39;t know how people travel without the help of you experts. I am going to have the best trip ever and I thank you all for your help!

Judy in PDX and Jbriles are one and the same. Sorry for the confusion. I tried to sign in at work and it made me create a new name.

Why don%26#39;t you see Wicked in Portland now, and then see something different when you come to New York. Wicked probably won%26#39;t be on the discount list for a while (if ever) in New York.
