When to book? and Currency (best rates)

Hi all

Going to NY for the first time in Feb. Just would like to know when the best time to book flights is? Looked around on the flight websites and the prices seem pretty stable all the time - is there a time ahead of travel that the prices will drop more or is it best to sort it out asap?

Also The same question with currency? When is it best to get afew Hundred Dollars from the UK. Is there any dates when the exchange rates are higher/lower then others on a regular basis?

You really can鈥檛 guess on the fluctuations in currency. (If you could you could be very rich.)

I would recommend using your ATM card in the states when you arrive. They are in the airport and you can get US cash as soon as you arrive. JUST make sure and check with you bank to make sure your cards work in the US. But I have been to plenty of places in Europe and my cards have always worked.

Bring a small amount of US dollars to NY for the taxi from airport. As previously stated the best rate is at NYC ATMs. If you want to change sterling TCs or currency, the best rate is in the US.

Andy, I%26#39;ll give you my usual advice to a visitor from the UK. Nationwide have a current account and credit card that don%26#39;t charge a conversion fee and the current account doesn%26#39;t charge you for getting cash out of the ATM%26#39;s. The machine owner may impose a charge, but HSBC didn%26#39;t for me at New Year. Till I got this account, I travelled with travellers cheques and dollars. Now, I take a small amount of currency and withdraw what I need as I need it. The rate you get is the bank rate whichis always better than the tourist rate .

As for the flights, there was a travel programme recently that said the best time to book a flight was 8 weeks before you wanted to travel.I%26#39;m a cowardy custard and if I%26#39;m planning a trip in advance, I like to have my flights sorted.

I would wait til the Sales start for flights which is normally Dec. You should be able to pick flights up from around the 拢230-拢250 each mark inc taxes so unless you see a deal that good now wait.
