I went to book some tickets to the observation deck of the Rock. I noticed that you have to pick a time like 8:00-8:15 p.m. Are you really limited to that time frame? Once you are up there, can you stay as long as you want?
If we are only allowed 15 minutes up there, what is the best time to go if we want a glimpse of the fireworks on the Fourth?
Are we better of trying to catch the fireworks near our hotel? We are staying at the Affinia Dumont on 34th St. It looks like we can just walk toward the East River and see them. Crowds? What am I not thinking of?

Once up to TOTR you can stay as long as you want. They may be sold out for the evening, I would check.
They are timed tickets to go UP only, to avoid long lines.
Lots of crowds on 34th Street on the FDR, but fun anyway, and very close to where you are staying.

Just happened to notice this with ideas on where to watch the fireworks. I have a feeling there might be a special event at TOTR for the fireworks.
