Reading Terminal like Market in New York City

Hello everyone,

In Philadelphia we have the Reading Terminal Market, which I love. Does anyone know of a comparable Market in New York City???

Thanks!

Like the Monopoly ';take a ride on the Reading';? How cool!

Not exactly. I too love the Reading Terminal. In New York you can get some good food at the Chelsea Market...and yes Grand Central has a food court.... But Reading Terminal is rather unique in all its green grocer, good restaurant goodness.

Go for pizza in New York instead.

Oops there is a comparable experience... Arthur Avenue, in the Bronx...

Pictures say a thousand words....look at these...

We have a very similar thing here - it%26#39;s called Chinatown.

Same concept, different culture.

I recommend Grand Street bwn Centre Street and Bowery. Sidewalks full of barrels of dried seafoods like starfish, shrimp and mackerels; nuts, dried berries, kumkwats, plums, herbs; butchered ducks and chickens hanging in windows, lots of fresh fruit and veggie markets, too. Fascinating stuff.

Take the R, N or #6 train to Canal Street. Walk north to Grand and then east.

Don%26#39;t go on a hot steamy day! Not too fragrant!

Thank you for all the advice. I am not familiar with Arthur Ave , I ahve heard of it but after seeing the pics I will be visiting it!. I love Chinatown and Little Italy and Lower East Side, to me they are the real NYC - not Times Square - yuck.

The Union Square Greenmarket is very much in the spirit of Reading Terminal Market, esp on a weekend. See www.unionsquarejournal.com/greenmarket.htm and www.gocitykids.com/browse/attraction.jsp鈥?/a> and

Can you give me subway directions from upper east side to Arthur avenue? How long of a trip would that be?

Thank you.

this tells you how to get there, I don%26#39;t know how long a journey it is. Check with MTA%26#39;s website.
