I have been reading on this form about how amazing it is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Even though I have been to New York more than 20 times, I have never done this. It looks like people take a watertaxi to Brooklyn and then walk back into the city on the bridge. Is this the best way to do it? Also, I am taking my little dog to NY this time. Does the watertaxi let you take pets on board?
I know NY is very pet friendly and I was also wondering what attractions are pet friendly. Any suggesstion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Brooklyn Bridge
The water taxi is one way to do it, although not necessarily the best. Many people take the subway (the closest stations are Clark Street on the 2/3 and High Street on the A/C) over instead, which if less elegant is both cheaper and puts you considerably closer to the walkway entrance than the water taxi pier.
Look here for directions from the subway:

I do not know if the water taxi allows pets, you would have to ask them directly. Pets are allowed on the subway in a CARRIER ONLY. If you have a very small dog, you could carry him in a shoulder bag with his head poking out and you should be okay (I certainly have let people do that, and I should note that for most of my police career I have worked in the Transit Bureau) -- the main concern is that we do not want Puppy to relieve himself on the platform, or on board the train!!

I hope I am replying to this correctly.
Thanks for your reply. I was thinking the subway would be easier too.
One thing about the subway..I have seen many times people just holding their small dogs. I even asked one of the subway employees if I could bring them on and they said yes and did not mention a carrier. However, if you say I need to, I will bring one.
One more thing..what train do I take to get into Brooklyn?
Thanks
While NY is in general pet friendly, I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find ANY attractions (apart from parks) that will allow dogs inside. No museums, theaters etc. The only dogs that are allowed are guidedogs.
I hope you%26#39;ve checked whether your hotel will allow you to leave your pet in the room unattended and I hope you%26#39;re comfortable doing that and not worrying that he will get out if the maid comes to clean etc. If you intend to take him with you everywhere, you will be relegated to dining outside (or in your hotel room). I am a real animal lover. I just want you to realize this is not as simple as it sounds unless you%26#39;re Paris Hilton and can afford a pet sitting service etc.
Thanks for your response. I am staying at the Hotel Pennsylvania (I know it is not the best but it is the cheapest pet friendly place I could find). I have been to NY numerous times and have already seen the well known sights plenty of times. I thought maybe there were places I have not thought about. I mainly want to hang out in Central Park and troll through the street of SoHo, Tribeca, etc...If I really need to, I do have a phone number of a pet sitter just in case I am dying to do something where I cannot take my dog. I cannot think of anything right now that I really want to do were I cannot take her.
You don%26#39;t want to eat in a restaurant? Eating outside in the rain is not fun.
I am good with a hot dog and soda from a street vendor. Not a big eater.
I found a doggy day care for $31 for the entire day if I need it.
Thanks!!
I think it%26#39;s lovely that you%26#39;re concerned about your dog and want to take her on holiday. I have a dog and would bring her if I could get her on the plane!!!
I hope she behaves! It is her first flight and am taking a red eye so hopefully she will sleep the entire way. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!
What train tdo you take to Brooklyn? I dunno, it depends on where in Brooklyn you want to go!
I have already given you the names of two different stations near the Brooklyn bridge, and four different subway lines you can use to get to them. Read the post that I linked you to as well, and look at the map for more information.
The rule regarding dogs (other than service dogs) on the subway is the following:
';No person may bring any animal on or into any conveyance or facility unless enclosed in a container and carried in a manner which would not annoy other passengers. '; [NYCRR 1050.9 (h)(1)]
Anyone who gives you any other information is NOT giving you correct information. You can do what you want, of course, but don%26#39;t then be surprised if you get a summons for it, or are ejected from the subway, or both.
