Yesterday, I bid on and won Hilton New York for part of our stay in less than 2 weeks. So, will be staying there instead of Comfort Inn Midtown. Should be a nice upgrade versus what I figured in my mind.
Now, here is my question:
Was going to try Priceline for a 4 star hotel in Downtown - SoHo area for 2 more nights. Hoping to be closer to SOL, WTC site, Brooklyn Bridge, Canal Street, Chinatown, etc to save on travel time. But was really hoping for the Millenium hotel which has nice size rooms and a pool. Realizing I can%26#39;t guarantee that hotel, and could possibly end up in The Tribeca Grand, The SoHo, or 60 Thompson -- which could very well be a problem for more than 2 people in a room.
I can opt to stay at Hilton for remainder of my stay at same price, or I can try for downtown-soho via priceline. Booking direct with Millenium is out of the question, it%26#39;s $200 more a night than my Hilton option. Which would you do?
What would you do? priceline type question re: hotels
I would NOT use Priceline. I hope you realize that it clearly says for NYC NO HOTEL is obligated to give you more than a room with ONE bed for 2 people on a Priceline bid. YOu should be ok at the Hilton, but it%26#39;s also possible they could give you 1 bed there and/or ask you to pay more for extra people in the room. Priceline bids are supposed to be for 2.
What would you do? priceline type question re: hotels
I%26#39;ve started looking at Priceline more closely recently and I noticed that when people bid for the soho/financial district area it almost always is the Millenium Hilton which wins. It seems that the winners at low prices are usually for weekend nights. Since it is in the financial district, it usually winds down on weekends and they are more likely to let go of their rooms for less.
For the price, if it were me, I would probably continue my stay at the Hilton NY, for two reasons:
1. The Hilton NY is one of the easiest places to get two beds on a priceline bid, especially if you join the HHonors program. I%26#39;ve done it, they%26#39;ve been great about it.
I think the Millennium Hilton would be fine with it too except...
2. Iffy you will get the Millennium. It%26#39;s a crapshoot...and I think when you really target a hotel on priceline you are bound to be disappointed when you don%26#39;t get it. You have to say to yourself...can I honestly deal with the TG, SoHO or 60 Thompson if I get it. If so...go for it...otherwise stick with Hilton NY and the money you save will pay nicely for other fun things.
If you got a good price at the hilton and they will let you extend at the same price TAKE IT. The time you save will be lost packing twice and moving hotels.
Post this quandry on biddingfortravel.com (in the New York City section). It is a invaluable resourece for all things priceline.
