Hi there!
Wondering if someone can help, looking for a nice boutiquey/ impressive hotel for a long weelend in Spetmeber for my partners 30th. It%26#39;s going to be a complete surprise for him so I%26#39;d like him to be impressed! I%26#39;ve visited NYC afew times and loved it, previously stayed at The Gershwin (wouldn%26#39;t go back for a romantic break but was fine for a girlt week) and with some friends so don%26#39;t really want to impose. Budget not too much of an issue, thank god for the great exchange rate! Thanks alot! Caroline

I love the hotels from the HK chain. I stayed at the Giraffe and absolutely loved the experience. It is quite romantice with the piano player during the complimentary wine service (and cheese) from 5 to 8 and the candles in the lobby.
I stayed at the Roger Williams also and loved it. They have a little bar nestled in the mezzanine of the lobby which is romantic because it has votive candles on the tables and big sofas and light music.
In the same area, I%26#39;m looking at staying at the Carlton for an upcoming visit. It seems romantice also and quite impressive. I just went inside to look and the staff was really nice.
If I went with my boyfriend, I would also look at the hotels that have a feeling from an another area like the ones on Park Avenue like the Waldorf and the Regency. I never stayed there but the Regency seems nice and there are often really interesting shows right there at the Feinstein%26#39;s.
Have a nice time surprising him. Preparing a trip to New York is always half the fun!

Thanks so much! The Giraffe looks lovely, shall investigate :-) Thanks again
If budget isn%26#39;t an issue and you want boutiquey, impressive (and I assume young) look at the Bryant Park Hotel in midtown. The other idea is staying downtown in Soho. Look at the Mercer or 60 Thompson.
Btw, I agree with some of cricri%26#39;s recos too. The rooms at the Waldorf are not very up to date though. Public spaces (ie lobby, bar etc.) more impressive than rooms.
