Things not to miss....

Hi,

My fiance and i are coming to New York in September as part of our wedding/honeymoon trip to the US. We%26#39;re spending 4 days/nights there and we were hoping for some advice on the ';things not to miss'; whilst we%26#39;re there. We definately want to do the Empire State Building, and try and take in a show (although not sure which one as yet) but other than that we%26#39;re pretty much open to suggestions.

Also, any advice on restaurants and places to eat would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....

Chris.

Not having any idea of your tastes, interests and budget, a good start for you would be to read some tripadvisor reports to see what others are doing to see if those interest you as well.

QB on here has compiled a list of trip reports by couples which you can read here:

Things not to miss....

Empire State Building is a must for the romantics isn%26#39;t it? I recommend trying to fit in one of our many museums. I adore the Museum of Natural History on the upper West Side, it%26#39;s a full day of fun for all ages with so much to see and do and learn. They have a website so you can check out cost and hours. http://www.amnh.org/ They have a special right now for a city pass -www.citypass.com where for one price, half of the price if you paid for each seperately, you can get into the Musuem of Natural History, Museum Of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, The Empire State Building, Circle Line Cruise, and The U.S.S Intrepid. a very large Naval ship that holds planes, all of which you can tour and a Mc. Donald%26#39;s on board too. At that city pass site you have links to each of the attractions so you can see what each one has to offer. I also love Fodor%26#39;s books, you can find them at most any bookstore, they have books for Nyc on a budget, with kids, couples etc that explain each burrough and community in detail so you can find where you want to stay, eat, see. As far as food, well It%26#39;s New York City you wil have so many choices at every block it won%26#39;t be easy to choose. I recommend maybe checking out Moonstruck, it%26#39;s a diner from the movie starring Cher, at 3rd ave/31st street, with the most amazing cheesecake, and other incredible foods. Espn Sportszone at Times Square is fun, a bit busy and loud but great fun. My favorite way to eat when I go to the city is the vendor carts. They have everything from curry to greek in those carts. For about half or less of what you%26#39;d pay in a restaurant, you get great food. These carts are all over the city, they even have contests annually as to the best ones for each type of food and location. Hope this helps you, congratulations and have a great time!

Reading the compilations of trip reports, as Voyagereuse recommended, is so useful -- and fun. But, if you think you%26#39;ld like to plan a truly personalized visit, here%26#39;s an extensive compilation of sights/attractions; after picking those which appeal to you, grouping them by neighborhood is the easiest way to start assembling your itinerary:

I%26#39;m ordinarily not a big fan of around-town bus tours, but because the major sights are spread throughout Manhattan, I understand the appeal to first-time visitors, especially those whose time here is limited. Both the Party Shuttle and Marvelous Manhattan tours consistently get high marks here at TA, and either one would be an excellent way to kick off your visit here:

And what would you think of a sail on a yacht? You need not spend the $$ for a private charter; public daytime, sunset and brunch cruises are offered by several outfits and are more romantic imo than motoring on the waters on, e.g., a World Yacht dinner cruise.

Some great suggestions that we definately fancy there, thank you guys.

We%26#39;re going to trawl through the old posts and forums as you suggested.

Thanks again all.

LakeGeorgePrincess...where is there a diner scene in Moonstruck? The only restaurant I remember is where John Mahoney get the drink tossed in his face. We went to visit friends in Brooklyn the day after we first saw the movie and they took us past the Bakery and down to the Promenade - fun.

Thanks, Voy!
