Any suggestions for a Day trip from NYC

Hi,

I am relatively new to NYC and as much as I do love the city, I was thinking of getting out for a day this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on great day trips from NYC?

I don%26#39;t have a car which is the only limitation...

I have searched the net but am struggling to find things - or I find things I am not sure of how to get to etc...

I am interested in all kinds of different ideas so if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!

check out www.mta.info and look at the one day getaways. All doable by mass transit.

you can take a bus to Woodstock or New Paltz. Both are walking towns with many fine stores, restaurants and natural beauty.

I recommend taking Metro-North Train out of Grand Central Terminal (Hudson Line) to Cold Springs. You will have a beautiful view of the Hudson river during your train ride up to Cold Springs, and the Cold Spring Train Station leaves you at the bottom of the Main St - There is a park there where you will get a good view of West Point (another good day trip - very beautiful buildings and campus) and then walk up the hill to browse the many antique shops, cute stores, cafes, etc - There are a bunch of good casual restuarants too if you want breakfast/brunch, lunch or even dinner.... Another good day trip is going to Bear Mountain State Park (again you take Metro North%26#39;s Hudson line to Garrison or Peekskill and a taxi can take you across the river to the park) You can hike (I believe the first part of the Appalachian starts there), picnic, swim, rent paddle boats, and much more while you are there - there is even a zoo!

I am planning on doing a day trip sometime this summer to Kykuit which is one of the Rockefeller estates in Sleepy Hollow.

It is easy to get to - just take metro north railroad from Grand Central Terminal to Tarrytown then a 5 minute cab ride.

It looks great.

Kykuit is fantastic, you will love it.
