Thunderstorms next week???

We will be in NYC from 22 until 29 June. All weather reports are for thunderstorms!

Not sure whether it is possible to answer this but in June in NY does this mean downpours for hours on end or really heavy downpours with a quick clearance afterwards??

Thunderstorms next week???

Loutro,

It really depends,

Sometimes the storms will come just at night.

It can downpour all day, but that itsn%26#39;t the norm.

Yesterday it was incredibly hot here. All reports called for thunderstorms here last night. I went to dinner and decided despite the reports I wasn%26#39;t taking an umbrella, and it never rained.

The chances of it raining heavily all week is slim. But be prepared.

Thunderstorms next week???

Loutro...I%26#39;ve been caught in some really heavy thunderstorms in NYC. They%26#39;ve come on really quickly, chucked it down like stair-rods, but then have left just as quickly. Have a great time with your son and daughter. Give my love to Jack!

Don%26#39;t worry, they are shortlived, usually. Calling for one %26amp; off showers, just be prepared with an umbrella and don%26#39;t worry about it.

It is storms, head into a shop until it stops.

Have fun!!!

Thanks to everyone. I have only visited NY in the Winter in the past and have been really lucky with the weather each time so I was just a little dismayed when I saw the forecasts.

You might also consider bringing some cheap, hooded rain ponchos -- or pick some up here at a Duane Reade drugstore (a local chain with stores everywhere in Manhattan); the ponchos, and umbrellas, are usually stocked there right by the front door or the cashier counter. Less bulky to pack than umbrellas, wearing a poncho is easier than maneuvering along crowded sidewalks with an umbrella which also obstructs your view of the sights around you. Granted, they%26#39;re plastic which isn%26#39;t the most comfortable material, but the looseness of the fit means air does get a chance to circulate %26amp; they%26#39;re easy enough to shed, e.g., on the SOL boat when you%26#39;re undercover. Plus, at the end of your trip, you can use them to wrap up dirty laundry you%26#39;re packing to take home -- or simply ditch them before departure.

thanks for the tips - I am there next Monday for 10 days so I will be prepared for the rain! x

Weather in the Northeast US is so unpredictable - be prepared for anything.

As someone stated, yesterday was supposed to be heavy thunderstorms which were predicted all day.

Never happened.

Bring an umbrella, raincoat etc...

As for rain all day - most likely not.

Take a spare pair of shoes in case it is wet. Nothing worse than not having dry shoes to walk in.

Hey, HB22

I think I%26#39;ve missed something here. Is DG jealous or what?? because I am certainly green with envy.

Where are you staying in NYC and what are your plans, apart from seeing Futureheads?
