Hi there!!!!!!!
I have printed many things/information through your helpful forum (so plenty of reading during my flight from Athens to NY)
I will visit NY 6/12 to 22 for 10 days!!!!!!!!
How many days before do I have to book restaurants??? For example Peter Luger (est. dinner time at 8 - 9pm).
At 4pm, is it possible to find well roasted steaks Midtown??? Are restaurants open at that time???
Which internet site could give me a good estimation about weather these days???
10% tip is ok???
Restaurant Reservations ++++ questions???Peter Lugers - make your reservation ASAP, this is a very popular place.
At 4PM, you can find open restaurants, no problem.
Weather - www.weather.com
Tip - sorry 10% NG. - 15 - 20% is the norm - my advice, double the tax on the bill, will be about 17%.
Have fun!
Restaurant Reservations ++++ questions???Hi,
I can answer a some of your questions.
If you know of restaurants that you%26#39;d like to go to make the reservations now, if you can. They usually take them from 30 days before.
4 PM may be a little early for a steak, but i%26#39;m sure others will have good suggestions for you.
As for tipping, 10% is really not OK here.
15-20% is pretty customary. depending on the service.
Some place will include the gratutity but for larger groups of 6/8 or more. Some people leave more than 20% some less then 15% but that would only be if they though the service was really bad.
I usually leave around 20% and go up or down depending on the service.
For weather I like www.cnn.com/weather.
Have a great trip!
Popular restaurants in NYC can book up early. Once you have decided where and when you want to go to a specific restaurant, call them and ask what their policy is with reservations. I%26#39;ve made reservations 2 weeks in advance, and some closer to a month in advance. A 10% tip would be considered low, given for service that was lacking in some way. 15%- 18% is usually standard, and many now tip 20% for good service.
OMG
I am late!!!!
Moreover because of the time difference between Athens and NY (-7hrs), I have for the next days to wake up 4am Athens Time for calling restaurants in NY!!!! Oops
See if the restaurant in which you are interested is listed on
www.opentable.com
- you can make reservations online through here.
Tks a lot
With Peter Luger%26#39;s you must call as soon as possible. Do not be surprised if they do not have an 8-9 p.m. dining slot available. Be flexible and ask what date/times they can accommodate you. If you can%26#39;t get a dinner reservation, you may wish to dine there for lunch. You can still get the porterhouse steak at lunch. Remember at Luger%26#39;s it is cash or Luger%26#39;s in house charge only. No credit cards accepted.
Opentable.com is an excellent resource to make online reservations! However, not all restaurants (i.e. Luger%26#39;s) are on it.
When we cash ???? How much will be ok??? 500$ for example is ok??? Is there any ATM???
Do I have to wash dishes instead ?? Do they carry knifes???
Most restaurants do not serve dinner until 5:30 or 6:00. You won%26#39;t have any trouble finding a coffee shop, but fine restaurants won%26#39;t be seating at 4:00.
Just back
We stayed 10 days in NY. It was great!!!!
1. Flights
Lufthansa (Athens 鈥?Frankfurt 鈥?NY 鈥?Munich 鈥?Athens)
Great flights.
2. Hotel
Sofitel NY 鈥?fantastic fits exactly Europeans expectations
3. Sightseeing
We went Ground Zero, Museum National History, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Bronx Zoo, Central Park, TOTR, Brooklyn Bridge, INTERMID
4. Shoping
Macy鈥檚, Sacks, Bloomingades, Nike, Victoria Secret, NBA Store, DKNY
5. Food
Peter Luger, Rosa Mexicana, Gramercy Tavern, Michael Jordan plus other I cant remember now. Red Flame (Breakfast)
Everything perfect鈥?
I did not like
The second day one crazy used his knife against 3 tourists on the subway and we were afraid until he was arrested.
Humid
Macy鈥檚 was out of European fashion standards
I didn鈥檛 like JFK on return we stayed 1 hour in the plane without air conditioning! Because of traffic in the airport we weren鈥檛 allowed to start engines for an hour.
Heavy traffic from Manhattan to JFK (Hopefully we had book a black (SUV) so price was fixed nothing to worry)
