Pregnant Mom & Toddler

Hi All, Am I mad but my husband and I are considering bringing out 19mth old daughter for a 3 day stay in NYC in August, I will be 7 mths pg. by then. I know it%26#39;s really hot %26amp; humid at that time of the year, but is it manageable? We don%26#39;t want anything too hectic a bit of shopping and sight seeing and a lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. Basically I%26#39;m looking for advise on a luxurious hotel suitable for babies and very central. I was looking at Trump Tower and New York Palace? Any advice??

Okay..I hate to be negative..I really do....but...I%26#39;ve done a lot of traveling with kids (including a trip to Ireland), so I do have some comments/questions. Are you also going elsewhere in the US while here? Three days, with the long flight, time difference, and being here in the hottest time of year, already sounds hectic! Your child will have jet-lag, may not be real perky, and you%26#39;ll not want to do much walking in the humidity. Our luggage got lost when we went to Ireland and we had 36 hours in the same clothes! If this was an extended stay, I could understand better, but this far for just 3 days? Just my opinion, tho. :)

I totally agree with Porchparty. I also gave birth in October and I remember being MISERABLE in August. And I think all the cement and buildings make NY even hotter. And I will also reiterate her question...are you going someplace else in the US? If not, I say go to a fabulous hotel in Ireland, someplace cool and green...if it were me I%26#39;d also try to get grandma to watch the toddler, a nice quiet vacation just for the two of you.

Are you aware that you are not supposed to fly that far along in a pregnancy? Plese check with your doctor before flying about safety of you and the baby, and how it can make you go into premature labor. I%26#39;m pregnant myself, though Im due later than you, and flying was one of the first things I was warned against. Be careful and safe, good luck!

Either hotel is lovely. Decide what activities you want to do and pick the hotel closest to your activites to miminize strain.

Will it be hot? Probably. Most places you will be will be air conditioned, so your discomfort in terms of temperature will be limited to the amount of time you spend outdoors.

There are plenty of pregnant mothers with nineteen month olds who live in New York in August and most do just fine.

Is it a lot of wear and tear on you and your toddler? Yes, but only you can decide if the effort is worth it. Is there a way you can stay a few more days? It might be easier on everyone%26#39;s jet lag if you could.

When I was seven months pregnant with my now sixteen month old, I took my five year old to Paris for six days without my husband. We had some great mother/daughter time together before the baby came (and did some great shopping). It is a memory we both cherish and talk about often.

I did notify the hotel I was pregnant and traveling with a child before I arrived and made sure I knew where the nearest hospital was, just in case.

My doctor allowed me to go, but asked that I get up and walk every hour or so on the flight to prevent clots. I looked much farther along than I was, and had a letter from my doctor stating my due date, to ensure Air France would let me on the plane (I looked enormous by American standards, you can just imagine what I looked like to the French) and we had no problems. Good luck!
