I would like to take a boat tour to see the Statue of Liberty. My flight gets into JFK @ 10a and I have a international flight that leaves JFK @ 7p that same day. Is a this doable and if so how, as are there any tours that leave JFK ?
Thanks in advance, tom
Only a few hours in New York
Hi Tom. YOu have plenty of time to do more than 1 boat tour but you%26#39;ll have to get yourself into Manhattan. There are no tours that start at JFK. ;)
The Staten Island ferry is FREE and passes near the SOL. Going there (Staten Island) and back takes about an hour.
You might prefer something longer like a Circle Line Cruise. There are 3 different cruise lengths, 75 minutes, 2 hr and 3 hr. All will pass the statue. Here%26#39;s info

Or maybe you%26#39;d like to treat yourself to a lunch cruise. Here%26#39;s info

All of these options leave from different places in Manhattan. The Staten Island ferry leaves from the south end of Manhattan. The Circle Line cruises leave from the pier on west 44th st. and the lunch cruise leaves from Chelsea Piers.
Assuming you can leave your luggage at the airport (?), the easiest option is to take a taxi into Manhattan. But if you%26#39;re without luggage and on your own and don%26#39;t want to waste your money, a bus or train will also work. I%26#39;d advise different options depending on which location you want.
Have fun!
PS--There is ofcourse the option of actually going TO the Statue. The Circle Line has a ferry that take you there.
Only a few hours in New York
It is doable if you understand you will have about three hours to spend in the city if your flight arrives on schedule.
Take the air train from JFK to the Jamaica Station and then transfer to the LIRR Railroad that takes you to Penn Station. From Penn Station you could taxi to the Circle Line Pier at 43rd St. and the Hudson River. They offer a 75 minute cruise that goes by the Statue. You would want to be on a cruise that leaves by 1:30 PM or earlier.
There is an alternative. From Penn Station take the #1 local Downtown to the last stop, South Ferry. When you exit the subway you will see the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The ferry has a view of the Statue and of the NYC skyline. The ferry ride to Staten Island takes 20 minutes and you return to the city on the same ferry. The ferry is free. You would probably have enough time to go to Ground Zero and/or the Wall Street area.
You would want to head back to JFK by 3:30 or 4PM the latest
