More transportation help

We are arriving at LGA on July 4th. We are a family of 5 trying to get to the Affinia Dumont. (Is that Midtown?) Reading through the archives, it says not to take two taxis. However, I am getting quotes of $160 for various limo/sedan services. It seems like 2 taxis would be cheaper. I am sorry for this repetitive question, but I am confused on the best way to get to our hotel with 5 people.

Also, when we were in San Francisco we used a door to door shuttle bus that stopped at many different destinations along the way. It seemed to double the travel time. We are not interested in that type of transportation.

I only have one week left to plan. I appreciate all of the information I have been gathering from past posts. I especially appreciate all of the ';local experts'; who take the time to help those of us who are new to the city. P.S. I have a friend who works at The Rock in NYC and he has been NO help at all. :)

Both are reputable car service companies. You can pre-book and pay by credit card, and they should offer an SUV which will fit five.

If a car service will take five in a Town Car that would be the way to go. If they say you need a mini van two taxis will cost less. You may be able to get a mini van Yellow taxi on the taxi line and that would cost the same as a regular size taxi.

The Dumont is in midtown. A taxi from LGA to the hotel will be around $30 to $35 with tip and toll included. $4.50 less if the driver uses a free bridge. He would likely use the midtown tunnel because he would avoid the heavy traffic encountered getting to the hotel if he uses a free bridge.

Get quotes from Carmel and Tel Aviv. YOu might also try Crown limo. At one point for larger groups, Carmel %26amp; Tel Aviv where charging more for a minivan than Crown was charging for a stretch limo for 6, but that may have changed.

You may in fact be better off taking 2 cabs if all the rate quotes are over $70. A cab will not be more than $35 assuming you%26#39;re not arriving at a bad time relative to the fireworks.
