I am visiting ny in August and would like to go to a botanical garden. Can anyone give me some insight on these gardens - is one better than another - which one would you visit- etc.
I am staying at the Doubletrree Metropolitan on lexington. What would be the closest one for me to visit?
thanks for your help.
Botanical Gardens
New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, easily accesable by MetroNorth Comuter Rail and is near the Bronx Zoo
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn easily accessabel by subway. (#2 and #3 train) and is next to the Brooklyn museum of art
The one in the bronx is bigger and has a really cool greenhouse but both are good.
Botanical Gardens
Both the Brooklyn Botanic Garden %26amp; NY Botanic Garden ( in the Bronx) are worth the trip.
The NYBG is much larger than BBG, but the BBG is right next door to The Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park and the beautiful Park SLope Neighborhood.
I would check both websites and make your decision accordingly.
BBG is one of my favorite NYC spots.

The Bronx Botanical Garden is the larger of the two and there is more to see.
The Brooklyn Garden is closer to the hotel and you can use the subway to get there.
Following are directions to the Bronx garden,
TO THE GARDEN BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
By Metro-North Railroad: Take the Metro-North Harlem local line to Botanical Garden Station. Walk across Kazimiroff Boulevard to the Garden%26#39;s Mosholu Gate entrance.
Just 20 minutes from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan
Also convenient from other locations
Save on admission and train fare with Metro-North Railroad%26#39;s Discount Package to the
Chihuly exhibition. For details and to purchase, visit Ticketmaster.com or call 1.212.220.0503.
By Subway: Take the B or D train to Bedford Park Blvd Station. From the station exit:
鈻?Take the Bx 26 bus east to the Garden%26#39;s Mosholu Gate entrance.
鈻?OR walk eight blocks down the hill on Bedford Park Blvd to the end (approximately 20 minutes). Turn left onto Kazimiroff Blvd and walk one block to Mosholu Gate entrance.
For any Dale Chihuly fans, his work will be exhibited at the Botanical Garden in the Bronx starting 6/26. Not sure how long it goes (the ad is home)
There are botanical gardens in Queens and Staten Island as well, but they really are not worth the effort. The NYBG in the Bronx is a grand, world-class botanical garden in the way Kew is a grand botanical garden. It has just about everythign you could want, and the Bronx zoo is nearby for a full and interesting day. The Brooklyn garden is very pretty, with charming walks and a really lovely Japanese garden. The Brooklyn museum is right next door (amazing Egyptian collection, among other things) and it is handier by subway than any other -- Eastern Parkway station is right outside both the garden and the museum.
And if you like gardens, don%26#39;t forget the Conservatory Garden in Central Park at 103rd street and Fifth Avenue; it is small, but lovely, and you can go see the Museum of the City of New York across the street at the same time.
I go to both the Bronx and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens frequently and they both are special places.I like the one in the Bronx better because I often gowith children and there is an amazing childrens garden but the whole garden is spectacular. Something different is in bloom every week and the conservatory is just breathtaking. But the Brooklyn Garden is quite lovely AND next to the Brooklyn Museum so you can get a little culture along with nature. You%26#39;ll enjoy either or both.
Although the Brooklyn garden may be ';closer'; to your hotel, I think it would take longer to get there than to the Bronx garden. I live in midtown nor far from your hotel and go to both gardens, and it takes less time and is an easier trip to get to the Bronx garden on Metro-North from Grand Central.
