Statue of Liberty ferry tickets clarification

I was just trying to confirm that if you purchase ferry only tickets online for a specific date, you can go anytime that day. I understand that if you do a tour you have a specific time, but what if you don%26#39;t? Also, I believe you don%26#39;t have to wait in the line for tickets to pick them up. Does this sound correct?

I%26#39;m not too sure about pre-booked times, but if you have reserved online you collect your tickets at a seperate table.

If you walk into Castle Clinton the lines to buy tickets will be directly in front of you, the table to lift pre-booked tickets will be on the right of you.

You then have to go through security there and before you go up to the pedestal of the statue.

If you can, go mid week and be there for around 8am, the first boat is at 8.30am. When the boat nears Liberty Island, make your way near the exit of the boat and head straight for the Pedestal entrance.

You will not be allowed drinks or bags bigger than a standard ladies purse through this point, and they are very strict. You then take a lift to the pedestal and can ask the rangers questions or make your way round the statue.

The views of Manhattan are great and it is a must for every first time visitor.

Thanks so much. That should make things a little easier.
