Fitxpatrick Hotels New York City

Trying to decide which of the Fitzpatrick hotels in New York City to stay in. The manhattan is on Lexington at 57th street and the Grand Central is 141 East 44th street. Anybody stayed in both ? Thanks

I think Irish visitors especially appreciate feeling like a little bit of home. I would prefer the location of the Manhattan for a leisure trip. I think there are more reasonably priced dining options in that area and more activity at night. The Grand Central location is a business area that%26#39;s quiet at night and weekends. All that said, not sure I%26#39;d pay more to stay in either vs. other hotels in those areas.

thanks NYwhiz, you have just made my decsion more difficult !! had decided on grand central as a friend told me lexington one is very outdated !! anyway the indecision goes on..... thanks for your help :)

I%26#39;ve not seen the rooms at either. If you don%26#39;t mind walking a bit or using train/bus for dinner, it%26#39;s not a biggie to stay at the Grand Central one and eat elsewhere. But the area around Grand Central caters to the office buildings in the area. Restaurants are busy during the day and mostly quiet at night. There are places to eat inside Grand Central, but If you walk east or south, you%26#39;ll find more neighborhood places. The F. Manhattan is near Bloomingdales and there are lots of restaurants around there.

Hi Paul, we stayed in the one on lexington avenue in January and loved it. The location was three blocks from 5th avenue and 2 blocks from a subway and Bloomingdales. The hotel is not ultra modern but it is extremely comfortable and the bed was to die for-no noise from the street either. The room was large with a separate kitchenette area and a large bathroom with tub and shower. The staff were very friendly and we were given drinks coupons on arrival-consierge very helpful when we asked anything, We are heading back to New York next year and are going to stay 2 weeks this time in the same place. The pub is lovely to relax in after a days sightseeing-didnt try the food as we ate out but great cocktails and the barman is very friendly

Thanks NYwhiz and choogirl, leaning towards the one on Lex now even though I heard its run-down

I stayed in the Grand Central one a couple of years ago and thought it was great. Decent pub on the ground floor and a fantastic location right next to the Chrysler building and across from Grand Central.

I never ate at the hotel but had a beer nightly whilst the girlfriend was getting ready and it always had a good atmosphere.

Some great breakfast places just nearby. We never ate in the area in the evening (not through limited choice, we just didn%26#39;t).

Because of our jet-lag and the time difference from the UK we ended up getting up at 5am and it was a nice neighbourhood to walk around at this time of day. Not sure that helps you much!!!

thanks NFMac, what was it like at night around the hotel ? Will be there on my own want a very busy area

Hmmm...not sure it would be good for bar hopping and bar crawls. I was a bit surprised with New York...this whole 24hour city thing was definitely centred on a few areas rather than the whole city. That%26#39;s probably my ignorance, rather than anything else!

If I was going on my own looking for a few decent pubs and then wanted to wander home I%26#39;d look elsewhere. But then I%26#39;d look elsewhere from the other Fitzpatrick as on Lexington as well as that%26#39;s in a similar area. I%26#39;m no expert but I%26#39;d look to stay in somewhere like Greenwich Village or the Upper West Side.

thanks....getting more confused by the minute :)
