Booking in Advance

Hallo everybody!

Me and my husband are coming to New York in August for five nights.

I wanted to ask your opinion about which things I should book before coming. We definetely want to watch a Broadway show, so the question is, if we don%26#39;t book and come to buy there, at TKTS at Times Square, or at the Theaters, is it possible to find something available during our stay? For example if we search for tickets the first day we arrive will we find anything in the next four days?

What about tickets for ESB, TOTR? should we book in advance?

Anything else comes to your mind that we should definetely book in advance if we want to experience?

I am sorry if this question has been already answered, I searched the forum for answers but I got a little confused..

Thank you all in advance for helping!

Information on theater tickets

A page that lists lots of options for getting discount tickets both in advance and on same day (look at rush tickets and lottteries)

%26gt;I would buy ESB tickets in advance online to save that line. You%26#39;ll still have to wait to get up the elevator though.

%26gt;I would not buy TOTR in advance. Most say the wait isn%26#39;t bad and there have been reports of people handing out 10% discount vouchers on the street so you could save some money by looking for those.

%26gt;If you plan on doing the hop on/off bus tour, there%26#39;s a $5/person discount if you buy the all loops tour online ($44 instead of $49) In August, I%26#39;d prefer one of the enclosed smaller bus tours though like NY Party Shuttle or Marvelous Manhattan. Up to you whether to book those in advance.

%26gt;The Tenement Museum is small and should be booked in advance.

Thank you very much nywhiz for your opinion!

Another question (sorry if this is silly)!

I looked at the TKTS sight and there are good discounts on tickets but they charge you with a subscription fee and a service charge which is about 40 $! So you finally buy the tickets at almost the same prices as the original! am I wrong? Is this fee charged even if you go directly to the TKTS office?

Thank you again in advance

I think you%26#39;re looking in the wrong place. The subscription fee you see if not for you or at the TKTS booth. The website for your purposes is just for location/times of booths and what%26#39;s been available recently. I don%26#39;t think they show what the fees are. The TKTS booth will be the cheapest option apart from RUSH tickets at the box office which can be as little as $25 for some shows. You need CASH or traveller%26#39;s cheques at the TKTS booth.

If you use discount codes on broadwaybox for online purchase, there%26#39;s a handling fee. If you just print those discounts out and bring them with you to the box office, that could be the best and easiest if the show(s) you want to see are listed.

Do you realize there are some shows that NEVER are available on discount?

I would suggest using the TKTS booth at South Street Seaport instead of Times Square, much shorter line for tickets (same tickets available)

it is $3/ticket fee at TKTS

I looked at the www.entertainment-link.com and saw these fees! so they probably are for people who purchase their tickets on line from their site..

OK so let%26#39;s see if I understood this! You can%26#39;t buy tickets online with discount from TKTS, you only see the availability and you go there to buy them??

Thanks again for the explanation! Sorry if I sounded silly!

Oh and thanks to everybody else for the tips!

';You can%26#39;t buy tickets online with discount from TKTS, you only see the availability and you go there to buy them?? ';

Correct and just because they were available today or yesterday doesn%26#39;t mean they wil be tomorrow or in a week%26#39;s time.

You CAN buy discount tickets online, in advance, with a credit card using discount codes from broadwaybox.com, playbill.com, theatermania.com and elsewhere (you have to register for free on all but broadwaybox to see the discounts).
