Hi All,
Was hoping for a bit of advise.
Will be travelling to NY soon, and have decided to stay in either of the above (including Taxes both for 1 bed suite - 1700 euros).
Which is best location wise. Will be walking a lot as will have 1 %26amp; 1/2 yr old with us. Would like to be within walking distance of Central Park, shopping for wife and some decent pubs etc for myself.
Also if you could recommend anything else that would be better location wise or more suited for baby that would be great.
Thanks for your help.
Best Western Vs Fitzpatrick Manhattan
Sorry that should have been Best Western Hospitality House.
Thanks again
Best Western Vs Fitzpatrick Manhattan
Assume you mean the Best Western Hospitality? These 2 hotels are pretty close to each other. The Fitzpatrick is slightly closer to the park and Bloomingdales, but the BW Hospitality isn%26#39;t far from Rockefeller Center, Fifth Ave. (Saks) etc. I didn%26#39;t realize the Fitzpatrick had a 1 bedroom suite. Do you know whether it has kitchen facilities? Both are well located for what you want.
You don%26#39;t say how many nights that 1700 euros is for, but the Affinia 50, the San Carlos and the Kimberly are other hotels with 1 bedroom suites that are near or inbetween these 2 if you want to compare. Don%26#39;t know which website you%26#39;re using, but you might check quikbook.com which sometimes has better pricing. (in US dollars and without taxes though).
The Blakely is another good hotel with 1 bedroom suites. It%26#39;s on the west side a bit closer to Times Square (but not in TS) but still within a short walk to Central Park and shopping, while these others are on the east side. Not nec. better or worse, just different.
The Rihga Royal is another suite hotel that%26#39;s been running good pricing b/c it%26#39;s under renovation. Their suites don%26#39;t have kitchens though.
Hi Thanks for the reply.
This is the info I am getting from the Fitzpatrick.
';This deluxe one bedroom suite is a spacious 625 square feet, features either a canopied King or Queen bed with pillow top mattress, a pullout queen sofa bed in the sitting room and a writing desk with high speed internet access. Our crowned moldings and rosewood furniture form a welcoming, relaxed ambience. Each guest suite comes fully equipped with two televisions, walk in closet, wet bar, refrigerator, 2 two line cordless phones with voice mail, wireless high speed Internet access, CD player, trouser press, clock radio, in-room safe, coffee and tea makers, color TV with VCR, pay per view movies, Nintendo, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, shopping bag terrycloth bathrobes, and umbrella. Room service is available 24 hours. No rollaways allowed. Sleeps 3.';
Have looked at the Affinia and the Kimberly Hotel but the are slightly over budget. The 1700 is for 7 nights.
Have read more on the Best Western Hospitality and they are all non-smoking suites, so they are out (Dont think I would last a week with my cigs)
I will have a look at the others you have recommended, but It looks like it will be the Fitzpatrick.
Will post back later looking for things we should not miss:
So far have:
TOTR
Central Park
Bronz Zoo
Toys R Us
Empire State Building
Ground Zero
Statue of Liberty
As we have baby - Wife will prob go to a show on her own.
Is there anything else that we ';Must do';, seeing as this is the honeymoon we never had (just 4 yrs married and said we better do something soon) -
So you%26#39;d have a fridge at the Fitzpatrick but sounds like no microwave to warm foods. Does that matter?
Just make sure this is for the Fitzpatrick Manhattan NOT the one near Grand Central. (that%26#39;s fine but not as close to Central Park). Also, compare your price to the hotel%26#39;s website. If you%26#39;re coming this summer, they have some specials including one with free breakfast and another with discount if you prepay.

As for must dos, try to walk the Brooklyn Bridge FROM Brooklyn to Manhattan. YOu get to Brooklyn either by water taxi (nywatertaxi.com) or by subway then walk back for the views. Good pizza at Grimaldi%26#39;s near the bridge in Brooklyn. Also cute park/promenade in Brooklyn Heights. Very kid friendly.
Make sure to bring a light weight collapsible stroller (push chair).
We stayed in the Best Western Fitzpatrick Manhattan back in January in a one bedroom suite-we found it very large and I think it would be great if you have a chid with you. Having the separate kitchen area is brilliant and the staff are really friendly and helpful. We found the location great, about 5-10 minute walk to Central Park and the pub in the hotel is like being at home! We are planning to stay again next July
Thanks NY whizz,
Have looked at the Kimberly hotel and it seems as nice if not nicer than the Fitzpatrick, Thanks for that.
Can anyone tell me how you cope with the hot weather over there or is it an issue. We are all fair (being from Ireland), and I am beginning to think that we will just not manage the heat in August. Any tips on how to survive?
Thanks again,
Your tips and advise have been excellant.
choogirl, the Fitzpatrick is not a Best Western. I think you stayed at the Fitzpatrick Manhattan , yes? In the 1 bedroom you had a kitchen?
KM, if the Fitzpatrick Manhattan has a kitchen, it%26#39;s closer to the park than the Kimberly. The only possible benefit of the Kimberly is I think they have an agreement with a nearby health club with a pool you can use. If that interests you, doublecheck.
Coping with the heat. Well locals tend to stay inside in air conditioning. Many of us avoid subway when possible and take taxis (all with a/c now) or buses. Carry bottled water with you and drink plenty. (water that is ;)
KM 123, avoid walking on the sunny side of the street. Because the buildings are so tall, it%26#39;s often possible to walk in shaded areas for distances of 100 or 200 metres. Also hit the stores such as Bloomies, Sachs or the bookstores for frequent %26#39;heat%26#39; breaks every three quarters of an hour or so.
I know people now yawn with boredom when they are advised to stay well hydrated. But it%26#39;s the secret of success in New York. If you knock back at least a couple of litres of water (as opposed to vodka) a day, you%26#39;ll have much more stamina to enjoy the City and its environs.
Also, if you%26#39;d like to feel a cool breeze sensation, take the ferry to Staten Island and return to Manhattan without necessartily exploring Staten Island itself (which is a less than exciting place).
Just noticed that now nywhiz!! Shows how awake I am in work (and how much work Im doing!)-yeah it was the Fitzpatrick Manhattan hotel that we stayed at
